Following a commanding performance that saw him win the popular vote and flip many swing states, Donald Trump has been declared the winner of the US presidential election.
After he won the swing state of Wisconsin, the AP proclaimed him the victor. Before Trump ascended the stage to speak to his supporters in Florida at around 2:30 am local time on Wednesday, Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, had little chance of winning.
“This is the greatest political movement of all time,” Trump declared to fans during his election-night rally in West Palm Beach.
“Now it is going to reach a new level of importance because we’re going to help our country heal.”
Trump becomes only the second US president to win non-consecutive terms, following in the footsteps of Democratic president Grover Cleveland, who won elections in 1884 and 1892.
His vice-president will be JD Vance.
